A firm date has still not been set for the long-awaited reopening of a Wiltshire town's art deco cinema, its manager has said.

Hundreds of people visited the Palace Cinema in Devizes when it held an open day on Saturday.

The building closed four years ago for renovation works that would see the capacity of the single-screen cinema increased.

Alan Escott, compliance manager at Picturedrome Cinemas, said he's "not able to give an answer" on the reopening date.

The proposals include adding a theatre to the cinema, which opened in 1912, and installing a roof terrace.

The original ticket booth, which has not been seen for years, has been reconstructed from four panels that were found hidden away.

"The plan is to get [everything] up to the stage area ready," Mr Escott told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"The chairs are bought and ready to go in. Once heating and ventilation is in, things can start functioning I would have thought.

"Everyone's been very positive.

"It will be an asset to the town when it does open as a live event venue, and a multi-use space."
