Laws proposed to further protect animals

The States are due to debate the proposals early next year

Newly-proposed laws could allow authorities to have greater powers to protect animals in Jersey.
Under the proposed animal welfare law, police could enter premises and remove animals which are in distress.
It would be an offence to attack service animals such as police dogs and it could be against the law in most cases to sell an animal to someone under the age of sixteen.
The States are due to debate the proposals early next year.
The Environment Minister said if Jersey was to be a model of best practice, it needed to act on the law swiftly in the best interests of animals.
