Parts of a busy Lincolnshire road will be closed overnight for safety improvements.

The A1 between South Witham and Little Ponton, near Grantham, will be resurfaced, while road markings and signs will be replaced and vegetation removed.

Work on the northbound carriageway will begin on 20 January and is scheduled to continue until 21 March, with closures between 20:00 and 06:00 Monday to Friday, National Highways said.

Attention will then switch to the southbound carriageway, where repairs are due to continue until mid-April.

There will be diversions via the A607 and A606.

National Highways said access to properties within the closed sections would be provided by a vehicle escort service.

The agency added: "We'll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum."

Further overnight closures are due to begin on Monday for resurfacing of a stretch of the A1 between Apleyhead and Newark.
