Drinks giant Diageo has proposed redeveloping a distillery on Skye to expand production.

Under the plans, which are still in the early stages, a new whisky distillery could be built at the Talisker site in Carbost.

Diageo said a public consultation would form part of any planning application, adding it had no firm plans for investment.

A Highland Council report said "sustainable technologies" would be a feature of the new distillery, and the existing production facilities would be demolished.

The local authority has been informed of the proposals in a document called a proposal of application notice (PAN).

Diageo said it was exploring and evaluating potential options to grow its business.

A spokesperson added: "A public consultation will form part of the PAN however at this point in time we have no firm plans for investment.

"Details of the public consultation arrangements will be shared in due course where the community will be able to view these proposals and provide feedback."
