Costumes of hit TV series Wolf Hall go on display

Costumes from the TV drama Wolf Hall are set to go on public display for the first time in Kent.

Five Tudor outfits will be shown from 12 February until 2 November at Hever Castle.

Dr Owen Emmerson, the castle's assistant curator, called the costumes a "stunning visual display".

He said they provided "a tangible link to the historical period depicted in the series, educating visitors about Tudor history and the social customs of courtly life".

Hever Castle dates back to the 14th Century

Hever Castle, which dates back to the 14th Century, was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I.

"It formed the unlikely backdrop to a sequence of tumultuous events that changed the course of Britain's history, monarchy, and religion," writes the castle's website.

The Wolf Hall costumes will be displayed inside the castle alongside Tudor portraits, allowing visitors to compare what Anne Boleyn and her family might have worn in real life, according to exhibition organisers.

They are on loan from the Bafta and Oscar award-winning company Angels, one of the largest suppliers of costumes and accessories for TV, film, and theatre.

The BBC period drama documents the rapid rise of Thomas Cromwell from humble beginnings to Henry VIII's powerful advisor, a role faced with treachery and danger.

The two series were praised by critics, with the first six-part series winning 'Best Miniseries or Television Film' at the Golden Globe Awards and 'Best Drama Series at the Bafta TV Awards'.
