Two lifeboats have rescued the crew of a yacht which was grounded on a ledge in the Solent.

The 37ft (11m) vessel, with five people on board, became stuck in Thorness Bay, Isle of Wight, at about 11:00 GMT on Saturday, the RNLI said.

Lifeboats from Cowes and Yarmouth took three of the crew ashore, and deployed the yacht's anchor while it tilted severely at low tide.

The vessel was eventually refloated and arrived under tow in Cowes at 20:15.

Richard Gregory-Pimm, from Yarmouth RNLI, said: "Unfortunately, it is very easy to be caught out by the falling and rising tides.

"It's always a proud moment to see first hand the teamwork between flanking lifeboat stations during shouts like this."
