Train services were cancelled after a vehicle struck a railway bridge.
At 08:46 GMT, Network Rail said it was told a crash happened in Popes Lane, Chappel, in north Essex.
Services on the branch line between Marks Tey, near Colchester, and the end of the line at Sudbury, in Suffolk, were cancelled, but at 09:06, a spokesperson said the line had reopened.
Greater Anglia runs trains on the route and passengers affected may be entitled to compensation.
