Launceston Minor Injuries Unit is reopening on Tuesday

A minor injuries unit which was temporarily closed due to staff shortages is set to reopen, health bosses have said.

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said Launceston Minor Injuries Unit would reopen on Tuesday 2 September for five days a week before moving to a six-day week from 14 September.

In July, the trust said it would be shut for the remainder of the summer because it did not have enough staff to safely provide a seven-day-a-week service.

Chief operating officer Dr Tamsyn Anderson thanked people for their support and patience and said she was "pleased we can return the service to the town."

'Meaningful difference'

Cornwall councillor for Launceston South Damon Dennis said he was "delighted" by the reopening of the unit.

"This is a real example of what can be achieved when we work together with purpose and commitment," he said.

"The return of this valued service will make a meaningful difference to residents, giving people quicker, more accessible care closer to home.

"Our community has shown great resilience during the time the unit was closed and now looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the NHS Trust in shaping the future of urgent care locally."

The trust added it would share regular updates on its website and social media to ensure residents were aware of the reopening, in addition to live waiting times and opening hours.
