Armed police arrested seven people in Cheltenham on Saturday after responding to reports of an aggravated burglary.

Gloucestershire Police said officers were called to Tennyson Road shortly after 19.25 BST.

A homeowner had been threatened with a firearm by a group demanding money, the force said, and later reports said a car containing people with a firearm had arrived on Moors Avenue.

Armed officers went to both roads before arresting the group and recovering a firearm.

Four men, aged between their 20s and 40s, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Two women and a man, all in their 20s, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All seven people remained in custody, officers said.

Gloucestershire Police said patrols would be stepped up in the area over the coming days to "provide reassurance".

"Despite the arrests, investigating officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police to make contact," the force added.

Officers said they would also like to hear from anyone who may have mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the incident.
