Two men arrested after 'serious sexual assault'

Two men have been arrested in connection with a “serious” sexual assault after a woman reported being attacked in a town centre in the early hours of the morning.

Suffolk Police, external officers were on patrol in Ipswich when a woman told them she had been assaulted in St Stephens Church Lane.

After officers carried out a search of the town, two men were arrested and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, external, where they are currently being questioned.

The woman is being supported by specialist trained officers.

A large police cordon was put up near the Buttermarket shopping centre, external. It has since been lifted.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said: “Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Safeguarding Investigating Unit on 101, quoting reference: 49681/24.”
