A road which had to be closed after a landslip in January is not expected to be reopened until at least spring 2025, a council has said.

Dalton Bank Road in Huddersfield was shut after it was damaged in Storm Henk, with some of the road collapsing towards the River Colne below.

The landslip had been caused by dead trees falling during the storm and groundwater seeping in and leading to erosion, according to Kirklees Council.

The ground had since undergone further movement and, due to the "complex nature of the situation", it had not yet been possible for work to start on the site, a spokesperson for the authority said.

Councillor Munir Ahmed, cabinet member for environment and highways, said: "As this is a very complex repair, we have been working with geotechnical groundworks specialists to investigate a permanent fix and agree on how to progress safely and efficiently.

"We envisage the project to be completed by spring 2025, but this could change if any adverse weather causes further damage."

Mr Ahmed said that in the meantime the council was working on repairs to street lighting and kerbing, which were also damaged in the landslip.

He thanked local business owners and residents for their patience and understanding during the disruption.
