Weelsby Allotments has a waiting list but new allotment holders could get a plot within six months

Spaces at allotments have been made available because of "constant demand" for plots.

North East Lincolnshire Council said it had freed up land at sites in Grimsby and Cleethorpes because residents wanted to save money on groceries and support the environment by reducing food miles.

A drop-in event will take place at Grimsby Top Town Market on 15 October for residents to find out about becoming a plot holder.

The council said those who had recently taken on plots had "been enjoying the challenge of taking on additional space and giving the plots their own unique stamp when starting their allotment journey".

Spaces are available at Winchester allotments in Grimsby and also at Carr Lane in Cleethorpes, where the plots are "challenging", the council said.

Littlecoates, Peaksfield, Saltings and Weelsby allotments - all in Grimsby - have waiting lists but applicants could expect to wait less than six months, the authority added.

The drop-in session, which will run between 09:30 BST and 12:30, is being run in conjunction with Equans, which manages seven allotment sites in the region.
