Pensioner jailed over 1990s child sex offences

A 68-year-old man has started a 12-year jail term after being convicted of historic child sex crimes.
Andrew Wesley, of Comberton, near Cambridge, was found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls between 1998 and 2003 following a recent trial at Peterborough Crown Court.
Wesley, who had denied the offences, was handed a 12-year sentence on 13 September, after being found guilty of a number of indecent assaults.
Police said they had begun an investigation two years ago when the victims made complaints.
'Bravery and courage'
"Wesley took advantage of two children in the most depraved and heinous way," said Det Con Terry Bandoo after the sentencing hearing.
"He abused them and robbed them of their innocent, carefree childhood."
He added: “I would like to commend the victims for their bravery, courage and strength in coming forward and throughout this whole investigation and court process."
A police spokesperson said: "Wesley's offending came to light in 2022 when the girls came forward separately to report the historic incidents to police."
