A man spotted struggling in the sea off the Dorset coast has been rescued by bystanders.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said it received multiple 999 calls reporting the man in difficulty in the water off Avon Beach.

A coastguard helicopter and rescue teams, RNLI and ambulance crews were all sent to the beach on Sunday at about 14:15 BST.

He was brought to the shore by members of the public before being passed into the care of an ambulance crew.
