The badly decomposed body of a man found on a beach more than a year ago has still not been identified.

Cumbria Police and the coroner said the man, who was found at Slag Bank, near the marina in Workington on 30 September 2023, did not have any documents on him.

Despite appeals no-one has come forward to identify him and DNA analysis and cross-referencing with the UK Missing Persons Database have drawn a blank.

The force is making a fresh appeal for information as an inquest opens.

The man was discovered by two dog walkers and it is believed he had been in the water for some time.

He is white and about 1.8m (5ft 11in) tall.

Police said he was wearing blue jeans on top of burgundy jogging bottoms and underwear with an "original brand" label on the waist band.

'Not much information'

An inquest into the man's death is due to take place at Cockermouth coroners' court.

Det Insp Duncan Brooker of the Cumbria force said: "I am aware that we do not have a great deal of information with which to share with the public for them to assist us in our efforts.

"However, we are appealing for anyone who does have information, who thinks that some of the details mentioned could relate to a missing person in their own life, to come forward."
