Public consulted on turning cafe into car wash

A proposal to turn the site of a former Café Rouge restaurant in Surrey into a car wash has been put to the public.
The application for the 748 sq-m (800 sq-ft) site in Portsmouth Road, Esher, was submitted to Elmbridge Borough Council on 24 October.
The proposed changes would see the site’s rear courtyard parking area being used for a car wash, including awnings over the wash and drying areas.
Local residents have until 13 December to submit their thoughts on the application.
The proposed car wash is on a site with existing tarmac finish that has not been used for several years, the planning application says.
“There will be no loud machinery as the washing facility will be operated entirely by handheld hoses,” the application said.
The applicant is seeking an 18-month lease for the use of the site, which would be open seven days a week.
