Arrest after pedestrian hit by lorry

A man has been arrested after a woman was struck by a lorry in Derbyshire.

Officers were called to Buxton Road in Ashbourne, after the pedestrian was hit by a HGV at about 12:25 GMT on Wednesday.

The victim, who is in her 20s, is still in hospital being treated for serious injuries, police said.

The HGV driver, in his 40s, has been detained on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop after an accident.

He has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses and any CCTV or dashcam footage that could help with their investigation.
