A 15-year-old boy has been left with a serious head injury after being attacked in a park, police have said.

Lancashire Police said the boy was approached and assaulted by "four males wearing masks" in Faraday Park, Burnley, at about 20:30 BST on Tuesday.

The boy was taken to hospital in a serious condition, the force said.

Police are calling for anyone with who could help them identify the attackers, or who may have footage from the time of the incident, to contact them.

A spokesperson added: "Although this is being treated as an isolated incident, we have increased reassurance patrols in the area as a precaution."
