Creating a road crossing for children outside a primary school in the east of the Isle of Man is a "priority", according to the infrastructure minister.

Michelle Haywood attended a meeting of Garff Commissioners, where traffic-calming measures in the village were discussed.

Commissioner Marinda Fargher said there needed to be a crossing outside Dhoon Primary School, which sits next to a busy main road linking Ramsey and Douglas.

Haywood agreed to add the need for a crossing point to a priority list for the area.

'Lower speed limits'

The local authority also raised concerns that there were no footpaths linking a nearby housing estate to the school, and there were ongoing issues with double and triple parking on the road and in the school's car park.

Haywood said her department had been looking into the issues and was committed to investigating them further.

Conversations also turned to general traffic-calming measures in the area, and Fargher said she wanted more roads to have a 20mph speed limit.

She said she did not understand why Glen Mona had not been included in wider plans for lower speed limits.
