Social media companies have been accused of "placing process ahead of compassion" as a mum's campaign to gain access to her late son's accounts was debated in Parliament.

This story dominated the headlines during the early part of this week.

Jools Sweeney, 14, died in April 2022, prompted, Ms Roome believes, by an online challenge that went wrong.

MPs gathered at Westminster on Monday to discuss "Jools' Law".

Max Wilkinson, Liberal Democrat MP for Cheltenham, said social media companies had "placed process ahead of compassion in Jools' case".

The news that three men had been charged with the murder of a teenager, external who died after being stabbed sparked a lot of reaction on Friday.

Eddie Kinuthia, 19, was attacked on 21 July, 2023, just yards from his home in the Grosvenor Road area of St Pauls.

Bristol Live reported that Zachariah Talbert Young, 26, of Easton, Paul Elijah Hayden, 21, of Hanham and Cartell Williams, 28, of no fixed abode, have all been charged and remanded in custody.

Det Ch Insp Mark Almond said: "I would like to pay tribute to Eddie's family, who have shown such dignity and patience during our investigation."

Paul Danan appeared in Hollyoaks and reality TV shows

The death of Hollyoaks actor, Paul Danan, external, who was also known for reality TV shows like Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother, caused a lot of reaction.

Bristol Live reported on the investigation underway after the 46-year-old was found dead in a property in Brislington on 15 January.

His death is not thought to be suspicious, but a report has been prepared for the coroner.

Danan's management company, Independent Creative Management, said: "His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him."

There has been a lot of reaction to Bristol Live's report on proposals for new student flats on Kingsland Road

Bristol Live reported on the latest development plans to build new student flats, external in an industrial area of the city.

New proposals have been submitted to the council for the Premier Business Park site on Kingsland Road, after previous plans were rejected last June.

The initial bid was to house 705 students, but this has now been reduced to 549 beds in buildings up to nine storeys high.

Dominus, the developer, said it wanted to create "a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood", but some businesses are concerned about the loss of commercial land, with an online post claiming it was "pure greed".

Councillor Wendy Thomas raised concerns over bus cancellations and children being left on the roadside due to overcrowding

Concerns over children being left at roadsides, external unable to get on overcrowded buses has sparked interest this week.

Gloucestershire Live reported that "school children are being left on the side of verges in rural villages like Nympsfield".

Conservative county councillors responded by advising parents to move to areas with better transport links.

Councillor Brian Tipper said: "If parents can't facilitate getting the child or person to work living in the country area, they should move."

Princess Anne made royal visits on Thursday and Friday this week

Wiltshire residents were excited to welcome Princess Anne to Swindon on Friday when the Princess Royal officially opened an education centre.

The Swindon Advertiser reported the famous royal visited , externalImprove Veterinary Education Clinical Excellence Centre at Delta Business Park.

She was greeted by a host of local political figures including the mayor of Swindon Councillor Imtiyaz Shaikh.

Sydney "John" Maskell has been awarded the Legion d'Honneur by the French government for his service during World War II

The heart-warming story about a 105-year-old war hero, external, who has been awarded France's highest military honour, sparked a lot of interest.

Sydney "John" Maskell has been given the Legion d'Honneur medal by the French government in recognition of his outstanding service during the D-Day landings and the Liberation of France in World War Two.

Somerset Live quoted the Glastonbury and Somerton MP, Sarah Dyke, saying: "The sacrifices made by Mr Maskell and all veterans serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring need to protect peace."

Pauline Richards (R) sparked a lot of interest this week when it was revealed that she is the longest serving KFC worker in the world

Meanwhile the Taunton grandmother, who was revealed as the longest serving KFC worker in the world, external, has garnered adulation in Somerset and beyond.

While national newspapers also covered the story, locally, the Somerset County Gazette reported on 74-year-old Pauline Richards, who has worked in the East Street branch of the fast food outlet for nearly 50 years.

She was quoted saying that she had "sold more than six million drumsticks and several million chicken wings".

Burnham-On-Sea.com published a thank you to the local community for helping to raise money for cancer treatment for six-year-old Jack Gyde

The community in Burnham-On-Sea was given a "huge thank you", external this week for raising more than £250,000 towards the cost of vital overseas treatment for a six-year-old boy who has cancer.

Jack Gyde has stage 4 neuroblastoma and will require an ongoing maintenance drug after a six-month course of immunotherapy ends in April.

His mother, Sarah Mackey, speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week, said: "We hit £260,000 by the end of 2024, which is mind blowing; I can't believe we did it or that it happened so quickly.

"The community support continues to be heart-warming and I hope in a few months we will be sharing that Jack is in remission," she added.
