Train passengers warned of weekend disruption

Train passengers' journeys through south-west London may be disrupted due to engineering works, South Western Railway said

Train passengers travelling through south-west London are being warned of potential disruption to their journeys over the weekend because of scheduled engineering works.

Network Rail engineers are due to carry out maintenance on a set of track points between Queenstown Road and Clapham Junction in Battersea, South Western Railway has said.

The work will affect South Western Railway (SWR) services on Saturday and Sunday, with Queenstown Road station closed on both days.

There will also be alterations to services or rail replacement buses on services between London Waterloo and Barnes, Kingston, Reading, Richmond, Twickenham and Windsor & Eton Riverside, as well as some services via Surbiton.

Disruption will also affect London Waterloo, one of the UK's busiest train stations

On Saturday, buses will replace trains between Clapham Junction and Barnes and services looping from London Waterloo via Kingston to Waterloo via Richmond will only run between Barnes and Kingston via Richmond.

Services between Waterloo and Weybridge via Staines will start from Barnes, and services between Waterloo and Hampton Court or Guildford via Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon will start at Surbiton instead.

Additionally, services between Waterloo and Reading or Windsor & Eton Riverside will be diverted between Clapham Junction and Twickenham, with altered stopping patterns.

Stopping services between Waterloo and Alton, Basingstoke and Woking will be revised, with altered stopping patterns.

Services from Waterloo to Portsmouth via Guildford will also depart earlier than usual.

On Sunday, buses will replace trains between Clapham Junction and Twickenham via Richmond, and between Kew Bridge and Clapham Junction.

Afternoon and evening services between Waterloo and Kingston via Hounslow will not run, while services on the Waterloo loop via Richmond and Kingston will only run between Richmond and Kingston.

Services between Waterloo and Guildford via Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon will start at Surbiton, and those between Waterloo and Woking via Staines will start at Kew Bridge.

Services between Waterloo and Reading will be diverted between Clapham Junction and Twickenham, with altered stopping patterns.

Services between Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside will also be revised, with an hourly service starting from Richmond and calling at all stations.

It comes ahead of further planned disruption for the weekend of 22 and 23 March when engineering work between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside begins.
