The trial of a police officer accused of assaulting a member of the public while on duty should be heard in a different city to where he works, a court heard.

Denis Kadric, who works for West Yorkshire Police in Bradford, denies causing actual bodily harm on Heidelberg Road on 26 January.

On Tuesday, Bradford Crown Court was told the 32-year-old had been a response officer in the city centre for "a number of years", and that an application had been made by his solicitors to transfer his trial outside of the court's jurisdiction.

Judge Kirstie Watson said it was "likely" the case would be transferred to another court, but did not set a fresh date for the trial.

The brief hearing was told Mr Kadric's defence team were likely to call a use of force expert witness to give evidence in support of him.

The trial is expected to last five days.

Mr Kadric, of Wolley Avenue in New Farnley, Leeds, was granted conditional bail.

He has been suspended from duty by the force.
