Police have arrested 48 people in south Devon during a large crackdown on organised crime capturing over £197,000 worth of drugs and counterfeit goods.

Devon and Cornwall Police said its Proactive Unit (PAU) had seized £143,535 worth of drugs, 39 weapons, £47,155 in cash and £7,000 of suspected counterfeit goods in Teignbridge, South Hams and Torbay since the start of 2025.

The force said arrests connected to the incidents had been made for a number of offences including drug supply.

Det Supt Matt Lawrence said the unit's work focused on those involved in organised crime had been an "essential part" in the police force's efforts to keep communities safe.

'Disrupt organised crime'

Police said drugs taken off the streets included cocaine and cannabis with officers using warrants, stop and searches and working with Border Force to intercept parcels to locate the substances.

The force added weapons seized included lock knives and BB pistol guns while suspected counterfeit goods such as 90 pairs of trainers were also located.

"We are determined to disrupt organised crime groups and remove drugs from our streets," Mr Lawrence said.

"This work isn't just about arrests and seizures, but it's about protecting communities and safeguarding vulnerable people to make our neighbourhoods safer for everyone."
