Two 17-year-old boys have been appeared in court, accused of the attempted murder of a teenager who was stabbed in a street in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to Stenhouse Avenue West at about 21:00 on Sunday after reports that the boy had been chased and attacked by a gang of youths.

The 16-year-old boy remains in hospital where he is being treated for stab wounds.

Neither of the alleged attackers entered a plea and both were remanded in custody. Their names cannot be reported for legal reasons.

Police Scotland said officers were continuing to follow further positive lines of inquiry, having previously said the motive for the stabbing was not known.

Det Sgt Kim Tennant said: "We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with our inquiries into this attack."

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and are gathering CCTV footage from in and around the area.
