Woman dies after car crashes into tree

A woman has died and a man has been arrested after a car was reported to have crashed into a tree.
Essex Police said the single-vehicle collision happened on the A1159 Royal Artillery Way in Southend-on-Sea, just before 23:30 BST on Tuesday.
A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition and later died, the force said.
A 43-year-old man from Shoeburyness was arrested at the scene and was being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drugs, possession of Class A drugs and driving without a valid licence or insurance.
Essex Police said an investigation was being led by its serious collision investigation unit.
Officers have appealed for anyone with information or relevant footage to get in touch as soon as possible.
