A yellow wind warning has been issued for Devon and Cornwall with an area of low pressure set to bring prolonged windy weather through Sunday evening into Monday morning.
The Met Office said wind gusts of 50 to 60mph (80 to 96km/h) were likely around the coast and hilly areas.
It said exposed locations could see winds between 70 and 80mph (112 and 128km/h), with the windiest conditions expected on Monday.
The Met Office advised checking road conditions before driving and securing loose items outside homes to prevent injury.
It urged those heading to the coast to stay safe and be aware of large waves, to take care if walking near cliffs and to call 999 in an emergency and ask for the coastguard.
The warning is valid from 20:00 Sunday to 18:00 Monday BST, with the windy weather expected to move eastwards as the day progresses.
People taking public transport have been advised to check bus and train timetables before leaving home where possible.
