The flooding has caused problems in Aylesbury

Engineers have removed 1,350 gallons (more than 6,200 litres) of water from a gas network after it was flooded by a burst water main.

Gas supplier SGN said about 350 properties in 15 streets in the HP21 postcode area of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, were affected by the incident on Wednesday.

On Thursday, it reconnected gas in five streets to 25 homes.

People in the area have been advised not to use their gas while the supplier attempts to reconnect more properties.

Resident Stuart Philbey described the situation as "not ideal"

Homes have been reconnected on Ashbourne End, Helford Close, Seaton Drive, Torridge Road and Windrush Court.

A customer service hub has been set up at Hawkslade Community Centre, Barley Crescent, where electric hotplates and heaters are available for all vulnerable residents.

Stuart Philbey lives on one of the affected streets with his autistic son and his wife, who has stage four lung cancer.

He said: "It's not too bad an impact because our oven is electric and we have air-fryers [but] it's not ideal having no hot water."

SGN has warned that disruption is likely to continue over the weekend.
