Students at the University of Northampton are hoping to showcase the importance of their course at an exhibition in the town.

The illustration course is one of those earmarked for closure in a bid to save money.

The exhibition at the Lab in Northampton will feature a publication of sci-fi fantasy illustrations put together by the students.

Daniel Jupp, a second year illustration student, said a closure or merging of courses would create an "unsure and overwhelming environment".

The University of Northampton recently announced it would be doing a second search for staff members willing to take voluntary severance

The university said in a letter to students it would undertake a consultation on courses in 2025 to "maximise the opportunity for high graduate outcomes".

A spokesperson said universities across the UK were facing "pressing challenges" and it would help students "explore alternative options" if components of their courses were cut.

When asked if the exhibition was intended to prove the importance of their course, Mr Jupp said "yes, that is what we want to do".

The student's work features a "sci-fi, fantasy world" themed publication, with a "dystopian" feel.

Student Annie Nguyen said it was the "end results of a two month collaboration" with students having "a number of different roles".

The collaboration of work from six illustration students will be on display at the Lab in Northampton on Saturday between 12:30 and 16:30 BST.
