Youth justice services in a Berkshire borough were well run by a “motivated and enthusiastic staff”, inspectors found.

Wokingham Prevention and Youth Justice Service (PYJS) was given a good rating after it was visited by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation in June.

It was found to have a “genuine desire to develop and deliver positive outcomes” for children and parents and carers.

The PYJS was found to have made “significant improvements” after a previous visit in early 2020.

The inspectors' report found it was “responsive” and that staff “should be rightly proud of their progress”.

Martin Jones, the chief inspector of probation, said if recommendations are followed, further developments would follow.

“The staff are motivated and enthusiastic and are supported by a knowledgeable team manager who has been critical in driving these improvements forward,” he said.

Its performance for out-of-court disposals was rated outstanding, along with its staff.

But the implementation and delivery of its court disposals was graded as requiring improvement.
