City bus service shake-up brings 'improvements'

Changes to Stagecoach services in Hull are due to come into effect from Sunday 1 September

Changes to some bus services in Hull have been announced.

Stagecoach East Midlands said the "significant improvements" would come into effect from Sunday 1 September.

The changes, funded through the Bus Service Improvement Plan, external (BSIP), aim to provide more frequent and reliable services across key routes in the city, the company said.

Hull City Council said the "enhancements" would help make travelling by bus a more "attractive" option.

The changes include:

● Service 7, between Hull, Sutton Park and North Point, and Service 8, between Hull, Holderness Road and North Point, have been enhanced to run up to every 15 minutes Monday to Friday, every 20 minutes on Saturdays and every 30 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays

● Service 10 will now operate via George Street and North Bridge making journeys to and from Bransholme more direct into Hull city centre

● Service 11 will now extend to Castle Hill Hospital, hourly via Orchard Park, and service 111 will now extend to Beverley via Flemingate, hourly

● Service 12, between Hull, Noddle Hill and North Point, will run up to every 15 minutes on weekdays. There will also be additional services on Saturdays

● New service 34 will serve Stoneferry and Chamberlain Road, connecting these areas directly to Hull Interchange

● Services 1, 2, 3, 7 and 10 will run more frequently in the evenings, with journeys every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday

● There will be other timing improvements on services 4, 5, 13, 14, 15, 61, 80, 81 and 255 which the company said would enhance punctuality

'Reliable and accessible'

Matt Cranwell, managing director of Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “These service improvements mark a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering a better travel experience for our passengers in Hull.

“With increased frequencies and extended routes, we are addressing the growing needs of the community and ensuring our services are both reliable and accessible."

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “Enhancing bus services to make them more punctual, more reliable and more frequent helps make taking the bus a more attractive option for customers, which in turn makes it easier to make more sustainable travel choices.”
