Buchanan Bus station could be demolished under transport hub plan

An online survey has been launched to gauge public opinion on the designs

Scotland's biggest bus station could be demolished under proposals to build a new transport hub, offices and homes in Glasgow.
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) say the plans for Buchanan Bus Station would "maximise use of the site and enhance the experience of all users" - meaning flats and shops could be built as part of the land.
However the transport operator said the bus station itself would remain central to the area.
An online survey has been launched, external to gauge opinions on the designs, developed by SPT and consultancy firms AtkinsRéalis and New Practice.
The final proposals will be unveiled later, after further feedback has been collected.
SPT documents say any demolition - which would also remove a nearby multi-storey car park - would be done in a careful and gradual manner.
The operator said the terminus had only seen minor improvements and works carried out since opening nearly 50 years ago.
It said feedback gathered via workshops and surveys showed people wanted a station easily connected to other modes of transport - like Buchanan Street subway and Queen Street railway station - helping cut down journey times.
Many also felt the current facilities and public spaces surrounding the bus station could be improved.
SPT added that the proposed plan would introduce "flexible layouts, improved safety, and generous public spaces that link seamlessly with other areas and transport modes within the city centre."

Bridges helping connect Killermont Street and Cowcaddens Road are part of the proposal
Documents released by the transport operator say the proposed new station would offer "a welcoming, lively and easy to navigate site".
These would include creating a new concourse, bridges helping connect Killermont Street and Cowcaddens Road, and more greenery around the area.
The station itself would feature better shelter from the weather and more room for shops.
There would also be new development plots around the station, which SPT claim could be used "for high-quality urban growth" - such as offices, homes, and shops.
The online survey will run until 23 November.
Separate proposals to revamp the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre were unveiled earlier this year.
