Woman arrested in pub arson inquiry

Arson inquiry after blaze at Knaresborough pub

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a pub burned down overnight.

Fire crews from six stations were called to The Cricketers in Knaresborough at about 04:00 BST on Tuesday.

Nobody was injured in the incident but North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said 100% of the building was damaged by fire.

North Yorkshire Police said it was believed the fire was started deliberately.

The suspect remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

Knaresborough Town Council posted a statement on social media offering its sympathies to those affected by the fire.

The council urged anyone needing additional support to contact Councillor James Pickard.
