A 14-year-old angler will represent England at an international competition after a "dream win".

Lexie, from Highbridge, in Somerset, won gold in the under-16s England junior shore sea fishing team contest, which was held in Scotland last week.

She will now compete against anglers from all over the globe at the World Shore Championships in Ireland this November.

Her father Craig said: "I couldn't be more proud of what Lexie has achieved over the past couple of years. Two England caps and two gold medals is just a dream really."

Speaking to BBC Radio Somerset about her latest win, Lexie said: "We had two days of practise and two days of competition at two totally different venues.

"After two really hard days of practise, we worked out where the fish were and what worked.

"It paid off because we caught plenty of fish - including flounder and turbot."

Lexie started fishing five years ago with her father.

Lexie's dad added: "People think it's a solo sport, but when you get to England level it's very much a team effort.

"We're so proud of the whole team, they worked really hard in Scotland."
