Sections of the M6 are set to close overnight around Walsall in the West Midlands as part of a long-term project aimed at cutting congestion.

The wider £78m scheme focusing on junction 10, outside Walsall, started in January 2020 and is estimated to end sometime next year.

Bridges and slip roads are being widened in the area, among other work.

The southbound carriageway will be closed 21:00 GMT to 05:00 on Friday and Saturday night, along with slip road closures on Sunday night.

Slip road closures, both northbound and southbound, are also planned overnight throughout next week, external.

National Highways apologised for likely disruption and urged drivers to plan their journeys.

"We’ll aim to reopen the roads sooner if we complete our work earlier than expected," it said in a statement.
