Speeding drivers targeted in road safety week

The States of Jersey Police are aiming to reduce speeding and anti-social driving.

The police are targeting people who drive too fast in a road safety week.

The campaign start son Monday 19 November, and runs until Saturday 25 November.

The main focus of the campaign is on driving speed and keeping the community safe, States of Jersey Police said..

They said the risk of crashing and causing injury increases anytime someone drives faster than the speed limit, or too fast for the road conditions.

During the campaign officers will be carrying out speed checks on the roads.

The plan is for officers to target areas where members of the public have reported reckless driving and speeding.

Those caught driving in excess of speed limits should expect to be prosecuted, the police added.

Insp Callum O’Connor, the lead for Roads Policing said: “Our message is clear, slow down.

"We are a small community, and we all share these areas, and we deserve to be safe whilst doing so.

"We should all drive responsibly and safely.

"Driving faster makes stopping quickly less likely and the greater the impact speed the greater the chance of causing serious injury or death to those involved in a collision.”
