A fault to a phone mast is being blamed for leaving customers without mobile signal for days.

Vodafone confirmed its equipment in the Egremont area of Cumbria had been impacted by a "third-party power issue".

Vodafone and O2 customers reported having no signal since Friday.

Both companies said they were sorry to inconvenience customers and they were working to fix the problem.

A Vodafone spokesman said: "Unfortunately we are unable to provide an exact date for repair, however our engineers are on site and working hard to progress this as quickly as possible to restore service for our customers.

"We are sorry to our customers who are affected by the issues to their services."

An O2 spokesman said the issues were affecting some of its customers in the Egremont.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

It is believed customers of other companies using the same mast are also affected.

Vodafone's signal checker on its website showed signal issues spanned from Bigrigg, through to Egremont and Thornhill.

The company spokesman added that the issue only affected mobile customers and Wifi provision.
