A man has died after a car hit a tree on Friday morning.

Police were called to the junction of Coventry Road and Berkeley Road in Yardley, Birmingham, just after 06:00 BST.

An 18-year-old man in a Hyundai i20 was seriously injured and confirmed dead at the scene.

A second man who was in the car sustained minor injuries and another man remains in hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Part of the road remains closed while police carry out inquiries, but West Midlands Police said it expected the route to be fully open in the coming hours.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time.

"We're keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and has not spoken to us already to come forward."
