Children encouraged to get active with 10p swims
- Published
Children will be able to attend swimming sessions for just 10p to stay active during the school holidays.
Cumberland Council is offering slots at five pools, including in Carlisle and Cockermouth in Cumbria.
Swimmers up to the age of 16 can take advantage of the discount at allocated times.
Anne Quilter, the council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said the initiative would also help families during the cost of living crisis.
Sessions will be available at Copeland Pool, Carlisle's Sands Centre, Wigton Baths and Cockermouth and Workington leisure centres.
They are available during specific times only, on a variety of dates and times during the Easter school holidays.
'Great opportunity'
Councillor Quilter said: “We have put health and well-being at the heart of everything we do, and we want to encourage the young people of Cumberland to get active.
"It is a great opportunity for children to use our facilities at a discounted rate and will also support families during a cost of living crisis.”
Two children had to be rescued half term earlier this year, during a similar scheme funded by Westmorland and Furness Council.
The rescues highlighted "issues with swimming competence" in the area, the council heard.
