Derbyshire Police said the sale was arranged via the profile of a man who appears to be unrelated

Numerous strangers turned up at a resident's home over a two-week period expecting a vehicle they had partly paid for, police have said.

Derbyshire Police was contacted by the resident, in Allestree, Derby, who told them about 20 people turned up day and night expecting to collect a motorhome or car they had paid a deposit for.

The force said the sale was arranged on Facebook Marketplace via the profile of a man who appears to be unrelated.

Using a profile name "Jason Wright", the man allegedly gave the address as a pick-up point, with some travelling from as far as Crewe.

Officers are now reminding people to be aware of things to look out for to check a profile or listing is genuine.

This includes using caution if a profile is new, as scammers often create new accounts, never paying in advance for an item, and using payment methods that offer protections or refunds to buyers.
