An application to move 78 allotment plots in Surrey has been approved.

Guildford Borough Council's plans to relocate the plots at the Bellfields site to a green belt site north of the Slyfield industrial estate were agreed at a committee meeting on Wednesday.

The relocation of the site is to accommodate the Weyside Urban Village project for 1,500 homes.

Joanna Chambers, temporary principle planning officer, said the plans would "allow the allotments to be completed and available for use".

Permission for the same development was granted in June 2020, but the plans were resubmitted to formalise changes to a site boundary, the layout of the allotments and associated facilities.

Ms Chambers said a "significant amount of work has already been undertaken" on the development.

Access to the allotment site will be from North Moors, inside the Slyfield industrial estate, which would lead to a small car park for nine vehicles and approximately six bikes.

The application also includes the provision for a small structure, which contains toilet facilities, an office and storage areas.

The plans submitted also include two bee-keeping plots.

Claire Upton-Brown, the council's executive head planning development, said the plans were approved after some 'fine tuning' of the conditions.
