Irishman dies while swimming in Portugal

A 52-year-old Irishman has died after he got into difficulties while swimming in the Algarve in Portugal.
It happened at Inatel beach in Albufeira on Saturday afternoon.
Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported that two people attempted to rescue him, external but they also got into difficulty and needed assistance from lifeguards.
A spokesman for the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs told BBC News NI the department was "aware of the case and is providing consular assistance".
