Drivers have been warned to expect seven weeks of disruption on a section of the A595 in Cumbria.

Evening and overnight roadworks will begin on Monday between Calder Bridge and New Mill.

The work will include road repairs, drainage and traffic sign replacements, as well as a refreshing of road markings.

Cumberland Council said the works could cause "inconvenience to road users" but it was attempting to minimise the disruption as much as possible.

It said a week of roadworks will begin at the Calder Bridege/Cold Fell junction. They will be managed by three-way temporary traffic lights.

From 5 August there will be closures from 19:00 to 05:00 BST for six weeks. These closures will be split in to two separate phases.

The first will last two weeks and will stretch from Pelham House to the Stanley Arms. A further four week of works will take place from the Stanley Arms to New Mill Farm.

The council said the road would remain open between 07:00 on Saturday to 19:00 BST on Monday, with traffic lights used on the A595 during the day.
