A man who sparked a police hunt after allegedly absconding from officers at a hospital has been arrested.

Wiltshire Police said a 24-year-old man "briefly escaped" from officers who were taking him back into custody after he was discharged from Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

Officers said he was found nearby at Coate Water shortly before 18:00 BST after a search involving police drone and dog units.

He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and escaping lawful custody, police said.

He was initially taken to hospital as a precaution after his initial arrest, as he struggled with officers and reasonable force was used against him, Wiltshire Police said.
