A Manx artist said she was "humbled and surprised" when her design was selected as a winner of a competition to design a post box.

The Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) launched the contest, which had the theme Our Beautiful Island, as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations last year.

Victoria Thomas's design featuring a range of Manx landmarks, can be seen at Ronaldsway Airport.

When creating the piece, she said she "couldn't help but think it would be great to explore our heritage and iconic architecture".

The artwork features the Laxey Wheel, Milner's Tower in Port Erin, the Tower of Refuge in Douglas and Peel Castle.

Ms Thomas said she wanted to include some of the island's most recognisable landmarks, alongside other unique buildings such as the Camera Obscura "which people don't always think of".

She said the piece "was a journey across the island", so Yn Turrys, which means 'the journey' in Manx Gaelic, "was the perfect name" for it.

The Baldrine-based digital artist had had "fun" creating the design and was "really pleased" with the way the colours "popped" when she saw it in person.

A post box at Noble's Hospital is also set to be converted using a design by Lesley Sleight, after Sea to Summit – Colours of Mann was also selected as a winning image.

Ms Sleight said she was "thrilled and honoured" and hoped it "puts a smile on people's faces".
