A car narrowly avoided a mobility scooter and crashed into a postbox outside a shop.

Norfolk Police said it was called to the Spar convenience store in Gorleston High Street, near Great Yarmouth, at just after 10.30 BST on Monday.

Witnesses described a grey Ford Fiesta crossing a pavement and crashing into an advertising pillar, before hitting the postbox.

Police said no-one was seriously injured.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "Two patients were assessed at the scene and did not require transportation to hospital."

CCTV footage of the crash appeared to show the driver of the Fiesta swerving out of the way of a taxi which was turning right into a taxi rank.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said the collision caused a "terrible bang".

"If the postbox wasn't there I think [the car] would have gone right through the window of the shop, so luckily no-one was killed," she added.
