A collection of more than 2,000 Pokémon cards is expected to make about £25,000 at an upcoming auction.

The cards, belonging to a collector from Chichester, West Sussex, are set to be auctioned at Richard Winterton Auctioneers at The Lichfield Auction Centre in Staffordshire on Tuesday.

The large collection includes various trading card game sets, as well as promotional cards.

It also contains 18 sealed base set booster packs, across six lots, with each lot estimated at £1,000 to £1,500, the auctioneers said.

David Fergus, valuer at Richard Winterton Auctioneers, said: “This fabulous collection going into our auction on May 28 includes various base card sets, Neo sets, special promo cards and much more.

“The estimate when we total it all up is around £25,000.”

The Japanese franchise has a large following worldwide, with characters featuring across video games, films and TV series.

The card game was created in 1996, with millions playing and trading the cards globally.

The unopened booster pack sets to be auctioned include all three package designs, featuring Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur.

Every pack contains 11 cards still sealed in the original foil, so no-one knows which cards are inside, the auctioneers added.

The collection also comprises a near complete first edition set of the Japanese exclusive VS Series, estimated at £600 to £800.

A previous collection at the same auctioneers sold for more than £55,000 in May.
