A 1980s footbridge is set to be removed as part of the Station Quarter project in Telford.

The 48m (157ft) long bridge is due to be dismantled from 3 June, Telford & Wrekin Council said.

Work is also set to begin on improving pedestrian access between the development and the town centre.

Lawn Central will be under a temporary road closure from 3 June as part of the work, but access to car parks will be unaffected, and there will be diversions in place for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.

New homes, a digital skills and enterprise hub and new public spaces and amenities are planned as part of the Station Quarter scheme.

Removing the ageing footbridge is the first step in improving access between the railway station, Telford Shopping Centre on Ironmasters Way and the Lawn Central junction, said the council.

The authority's cabinet member for the economy, jobs and neighbourhood services, Lee Carter, said the project would "transform this area of Telford into a quality environment for people to live, work and learn in."
