Three malnourished guinea pigs have been found dead behind a bus shelter in Aberdeenshire.

The Scottish SPCA said the pets were discovered inside a plastic bag on Westhill Road, Westhill, on Monday morning by a member of the public.

The animal charity said one of the guinea pigs was all white, one was white with a black patch on its head and the third was black, tan and white.

Scottish SPCA inspector Fiona Mackenzie said: "A post mortem was carried out and found that all three guinea pigs were in a malnourished state."

She urged anyone with information to contact its confidential animal helpline, external.
