About 2,000 people evacuated over gas leak fears
Several buildings were evacuated, London Fire Brigade said

About 2,000 people were evacuated from buildings in Southwark, south London, on Wednesday afternoon over a suspected gas leak.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said it was called to Southwark Street, by the junction of Great Suffolk Street.
A cordon and road closure were put in place and "several buildings" were "evacuated as a precaution", LFB said on X, formerly Twitter.
The brigade said no-one had been reported injured and had advised people to avoid the area.
At about 17:08 BST, LFB said the gas board was on site "working to isolate the gas leak and make the scene safe".
It added that a large number of those evacuated had left the area and a cordon remained in place as a precaution, while traffic was heavily disrupted.
