A lido in Kent which closed "unexpectedly" due to a "significant" water leak is set to reopen to the public.

The Strand in Gillingham will open its doors again on Saturday, according to Medway Council.

A spokesperson "apologised for the inconvenience" caused by the sudden closure on 30 May during half-term week.

The lido, which is 128-years-old, had only opened for the summer season days earlier.

A spokesperson from Medway Council said: “We are pleased to announce the Strand Pool will reopen this weekend following work to address a leak.

"We hope to see everyone at the pool soon.”

Situated on the edge of the River Medway, the lido uses saltwater which is pumped from the river, filtered and chlorinated.

It is the only remaining riverside tidal saltwater pool in England, according to operator Medway Council.
